A biobank, or bio-repository, is a place that collects, stores, processes and distributes biological materials and data associated with these materials.
The main external service of a biobank is to provide biological samples and their associated data to researchers both internal and from outside the entity that manages it.
The general functions of a bank are to collect, store, process and distribute biological materials and data associated with them.
The main internal processes of a biobank, in relation to the information system, are the assurance of quality, consistency and integrity of information as well as ensuring its security and privacy.
